Momentum Halt
Out of sheer curiosity, I was reading about periodization in sports other than powerlifting and bodybuilding. Most sports have strict formal dates for their seasons that make periodization and peaking predictable. The difference with us is that we have a wide range of dates to compete. It is pretty much a game of making up your competition season as long or short as you feel.
Not only does that pose physiological challenges for coaches, but also mental challenges. Bodybuilding and powerlifting have no real seasonality. Because of that, I have competed too much and paced myself right into burn out. I have also had too long of off seasons that make me lazy forgetting my good habits.
Finding the right momentum season to season in our sport is difficult. I do not know the answer as to what is most optimal. But I do have an opinion on what is a good fundamental thinking process behind finding breaks and keeping your momentum solid.
P.S. This was the book I was reading lol
